D of E Gold

A huge congratulations to Harvey who has achieved all levels of his DofE, from Bronze to Gold here at TA! He had the pleasure of attending the Gold award ceremony at Buckingham Palace Gardens and spoke with Prince Edward. It has been a pleasure to support him throughout his DofE experience. What an amazing achievement, well done Harvey!

Year 11 Exam Update

Year 11 are now half way through their GCSE exams. There has been a real buzz in the dining area each morning as they do any last minute preparations while enjoying a good breakfast. Staff coming down to support each morning has made a huge impact on the students.

There has been a real focus in the briefings before each exam with students keen to pick up any last minute tips and get themselves in the correct mindset.

The photos are from Wednesday’s Science breakfast and briefing.

Art

Year 9 clay responses for ‘Structures’ project.

One of our talented Year 12 art students Coral Rogers led the clay demonstration for a Year 7 lesson this week. She displayed the work of artist Courtney Mattison, demonstrated 4 clay techniques to make various corals and seaweeds and explained about coral bleaching. The students were all really excited to work with clay and worked with 100% focus for the duration of the lesson, even exclaiming that Coral is the best teacher ever! The individual clay pieces will fit together to make a collaborative art piece in the style of the artist which will raise awareness of the damage sea pollution can do. Well done and thank you to Coral.

French with Mrs Berry

Mrs Berry’s Year 7 class have been learning how to introduce and describe their family members. First, they learnt the verb ‘avoir‘ (to have) and the students took it in turns to lead the class in conjugating the verb; cheerleader-style!

They then moved on to say their family members’ names, ages and describe their hair, eyes and personality. The students have particularly enjoyed practicing in small groups with our French Language Assistant, Élisa, who will be very sadly leaving us at half term.

Élisa has also been working hard with our Year 11s to prepare them for the last of their exams – their writing exam – on Friday. She has been a great asset to our French classes. We will all miss her greatly and wish her all the best in her future teaching career!

Devon Cricket Sessions in PE Lessons

Over the next couple of weeks, our Year 7, 8 and 9 girls will have the opportunity in their PE lessons to take part in cricket sessions from Devon Cricket. The girls have been learning how to bowl and field correctly. They move on to batting next week!

Energy Saving Poster Competition

The current poster competition being run in the art department, focuses on the theme of “‘Energy Saving’and its ultimate effects on Our Environment and Measures to Tackle It.

The work being produced showcases the impressive creativity and awareness of our talented art students. The competition is drawing a diverse array of entries, with the students experimenting and utilizing a variety of media and approaches including collage, drawing, colored pencils, and felt pens. The resulting artworks not only underscore the significance of energy conservation but also offer insightful solutions for tackling environmental issues.

The engagement from our Year 7, 8 and year 9 art students is commendable, reflecting a deep concern for environmental issues and a proactive attitude towards solving them. The variety of approaches and originality displayed in the posters indicate a promising future generation of environmentally conscious individuals.

Year 7 Netball Academy Matches Vs Churston Grammar School

On Tuesday the whole of our Year 7 Netball Academy split into three teams and played matches against the visiting school, CFGS Year 7 squad. The girls all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play these matches; it was the first match for some of our girls who are new to the academy. The girls all tried really hard, with all three teams connecting well on court, and all managing to score some goals.

Year 9 and 10 South Devon Cup Finals

Wednesday of last week saw both our Year 9 and 10 football teams round off their season at the South Devon Cup Finals. Unfortunately, both teams failed to hit the heights of the majority of their performances this season, losing both matches in what was a difficult morning for us. Both year groups have done fantastically well both locally and nationally this year, so should be very proud of their achievements.
