Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has issued a "special thanks to all the fans" as he confirmed he is leaving the club.

Van de Beek, who joined United from Ajax in September 2020, is expected to join La Liga outfit Girona.

In a message on social media, the 27-year-old said: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years.

"From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.

"Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody. We'll meet again."

It is understood Girona will pay a minimal initial fee for Van de Beek - who United signed for £35m - with further add-ons that could total £16.9m (20m euros) in the unlikely event they are all met.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have rejected a £50,000 bid from Arsenal for goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.

The Gunners are looking for a back-up for David Raya, with doubts surrounding Aaron Ramsdale's future.

But their offer falls well short of Wolves' valuation, especially as Gary O'Neil's side would need to source a replacement.

Wolves start their Premier League campaign on 17 August at Arsenal and would only have Tom King, who joined from Northampton last year, as senior support for number one Jose Sa.

Ramsdale's position at Arsenal is uncertain after he lost his place to Raya last season. He made just six Premier League appearances, and 11 in all competitions, having joined from Sheffield United in 2021.

Bentley, who joined Wolves from Bristol City in January 2023, made just five Premier League appearances last season.

The 30-year-old is in Spain on Wolves' pre-season training camp before they fly to the USA for games against West Ham United, Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig.

The Gunners also face Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool in the States.

Southampton are unlikely to continue their pursuit of Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons after the Cherries demanded £10m.

The Saints had a bid of about £6m rejected for the defender last week.

But they will now move on to other targets as they prepare for a return to the Premier League, which starts with a trip to Newcastle United on 17 August.

Southampton boss Russell Martin, who signed a new three-year contract along with his staff earlier this month, tried to bring in Aarons from Norwich City last year only for the 24-year-old to join the Cherries.

Chelsea have been motoring through the transfer window at rapid pace, signing multiple players as they await further opinions from manager Enzo Maresca.

The focus in the last few weeks has been on signing young players on long-term deals with potential to make an impact in the future.

Atlanta left-back Caleb Wiley, 19, is now closing in on an £8.5m move to Chelsea, Boca Juniors centre-back Aaron Anselmino, also 19, is expected to follow and FC Basel midfielder Renato Veiga, 20, will conduct a medical in London on Wednesday before completing a £12m move.

Wiley will join Strasbourg on loan, Anselmino will likely stay at Boca until at least January while Veiga will join Chelsea on pre-season but could be loaned out at a later date.

Veiga is one of many players under evaluation by Maresca, who wants to give everyone a chance, before making decisions on transfers in and out.

The new Blues manager begun pre-season training yesterday and wants a look at his striking options – with Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and new signing Marc Guiu already on the books.

Their performance and fitness levels in pre-season will dictate whether Chelsea push to sign another striker. Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion was subject to an initial bid from Chelsea and senior staff have asked Lille forward Jonathan David’s representatives for information ahead of a potential move.

Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha has joined AEK Athens on a free transfer.

Strakosha, 29, joined Brentford from Lazio in 2022 and has made six appearances.

The Albania international has been named on the bench on 50 occasions for the Bees but has left to play first-team football.

Director of football Phil Giles said: "Like any good player, he will have wanted to play a lot more games. Being a substitute goalkeeper on a regular basis is arguably one of the toughest roles in football.

"We recognise this and therefore we are happy for Thomas to now leave to get back to starting games every week, which I’m sure he will do with AEK."

Liverpool are considering appointing former Netherlands centre-back Johnny Heitinga as first-team coach.

Heitinga, who had a spell at Everton during his playing career, has told De Telegraaf newspaper, external in his homeland that he has been approached about taking the role in new Reds manager Arne Slot's coaching set-up.

The 40-year-old was a first-team coach at West Ham last season but left in May following the departure of David Moyes as manager.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to appoint Aaron Briggs as elite development coach.

He would replace Vitor Matos, who left the Liverpool at the same time as ex-boss Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

Liverpool have rejected a bid worth about £4m from Trabzonspor for defender Nat Phillips.

The Reds are looking for significantly more for the 27-year-old and value him at closer to £10m.

Burnley are also believed to be interested in Phillips, who played under new Clarets boss Scott Parker when he led Bournemouth to promotion from the Championship during the 2021-22 season.

Phillips, who has one year left on his Anfield contract, had spells on loan at Celtic and Cardiff City last season.

The centre-back joined Liverpool in in 2016 and has made 29 appearances.

AC Milan adviser - and former Manchester United striker - Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed the Serie A club are no longer trying to sign Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee.

United have been in talks with the 23-year-old, who is presently on Euro 2024 duty, and the path is now clear to a deal being done - if they want it.

The Old Trafford outfit have been looking to add another forward to Erik ten Hag's squad following the summer exit of Anthony Martial.

They would hope to raise some money by selling Mason Greenwood to either Lazio or Marseille.

Antoine sem*nyo has signed a new five-year contract with Bournemouth.

The 24-year-old joined the Cherries from Bristol City in January 2023 and impressed last season as a right winger.

sem*nyo scored eight goals in 36 games last term and has made 47 appearances for Bournemouth.

The Ghana international said: "My journey has taught me to never take anything for granted and to take each moment when it comes.

"It is an exciting new era so let us keep pushing."

  20. Kilman deal 'too good to turn down'published at 07:50 8 July

Max Kilman will leave a hole in the Wolves defence, having been integral to the side's resilience in recent years.

Kilman played every minute of all 38 Premier League games last season, with William Saliba of Arsenal the only other outfield player to achieve the feat.

However, now it will be West Ham who benefit from his reliability, his £40m move reuniting him with former Molineux boss Julen Lopetegui, who made him captain while Wolves head coach.

Wolves have plans in place and were prepared for this eventuality, though.

It is a huge fee for a 27-year-old who cost just £40,000 from Maidenhead in 2018 and represents a stunning deal for the club.

Ultimately, it was too good to turn down and helps fund deals already done for Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima, while Wolves will be able to reinvest some of the cash for Kilman's replacement.

Gary O'Neil has his targets and Wolves will need a solution alongside the ever-dependable Craig Dawson.

It is not ideal but they still have five weeks to prepare, while there is a pre-season trip to Spain next week.

They could face an immediate reunion with Kilman in a friendly against the Hammers, as well as fixtures against Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig in the nited States.
