A large fraction of all #EEE put on the market in Europe never reaches recycling. In the rest of the world most regions do not have formal structures to collect and recover precious metals and other materials from #WEEE leading to pollution. as one of the fastest growing waste streams tighter targets as those set in the review of the weee directive are needed but they need to be accompanied by new systems for high quality recycling of the materials and stringent monitoring of #ecodesign guidelines

Infineon Technologies AG takes a leap towards sustainability by adopting Soluboard, a recyclable and biodegradable printed circuit board (PCB) substrate. Developed by UK start-up Jiva Materials, this innovative solution helps reduce the carbon footprint of the electronics industry.Soluboard's plant-based PCB material, made from natural fibers and a halogen-free polymer, boasts a much lower carbon footprint than traditional glass-based fibers. The organic structure dissolves in hot water, leaving compostable organic material and enabling the recovery and recycling of electronic components.By using Soluboard in demo and evaluation boards, Infineon not only minimizes electronic waste but also promotes sustainable designs in the electronics industry. The company is exploring the possibility of using this biodegradable material for all boards, aligning with the European Commission's "Green Deal" agenda for climate neutrality by 2050 and fostering circularity in our lives.Infineon's commitment to responsible collection and recycling of electronic products further supports a greener future. Together, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions and plastic usage, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly electronics industry. #infineon #jivamaterials #electronics #electronicsmanufacturing #recyclable #biodegradable #greentech #carbonreduction #techinnovation #circulardesign #sustainablesolutions #climateactionnow #greeninnovation #wastereduction #greenerfuture #sustainableelectronics

🌱 Did you know that over 50 million tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) are generated globally every year?🌍 This alarming number continues to rise, with the UK alone contributing around 2 million tonnes to this fast-growing waste stream annually. 📈 The disposal of electronic waste poses significant challenges, from environmental pollution to the loss of valuable resources. But fear not! There's a ray of hope in the form of Soluboard®, the world's first fully recyclable PCB substrate, brought to you by German semiconductor maker Infineon Technologies AG and UK startup Jiva Materials. 🌿🍃 Soluboard® is not just another printed circuit board - it's a game-changer in the tech industry's quest for #sustainability. Traditional PCBs are made from materials like #epoxyresin and #fiberglass, which are not easily #recyclable. But Soluboard® takes a different approach. Its primary ingredient is a natural fiber, which significantly reduces its #carbonfootprint compared to conventional glass-based fibers. 🌿💡 The Power of Life Cycle Analysis (#lca) - The journey to creating Soluboard® started with a crucial step - life cycle analysis. 📊 This analysis helped identify the #environmental impact of different PCB materials, leading to the discovery of a fully-#biodegradable alternative. By understanding the complete life cycle of products, from #rawmaterials to disposal, we can make informed decisions that benefit both the #environment and our bottom line. Soluboard® emerged as the ideal solution, and its organic structure allows it to delaminate in hot water, making #recycling a breeze! 🌊🌏 Soluboard®'s Impact on E-Waste 🌏Soluboard® offers a unique approach to combating the #ewaste crisis. When immersed in hot water, the non-toxic ingredients gently dissolve, allowing easy removal of electronic components for re-processing. This innovative water-based recycling process not only reduces #carbonemissions but also leads to higher yields in precious metal recovery. Imagine a future where e-waste is efficiently recycled, preserving valuable resources and reducing the burden on our planet. 🌟🚀The potential impact of Soluboard® is tremendous, and its adoption could lead to a staggering 60% reduction in the carbon footprint compared to traditional PCBs. 🌱 By integrating Soluboard® into our supply chains, we contribute to a circular economy where products are designed for reuse and recycling, making a significant difference in our fight against e-waste. Let's take a step towards a greener future, one innovative PCB at a time! 💚🤔 What other #sustainable innovations do you believe could revolutionize the tech industry and help combat e-waste? 🌟 Share your thoughts in the comments below. #SustainabilityMatters #EwasteSolutions #CircularEconomy #TechInnovation #Soluboard #GreenFuture

Toray Industries, Inc. announced today the successful development of recycled carbon fiber (rCF) derived from the production process of the Boeing 787 components using Toray’s advanced carbon fiber, TORAYCA™. The rCF, which is based on pyrolysis recycling process, has been integrated into the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 as reinforcement filler for thermoplastic pellets. Toray and Lenovo will continue to collaborate to expand the usage of rCF in other Lenovo products.Toray rCF is the outcome of Boeing and Lenovo’s shared commitment to minimize their environmental impact. Boeing’s objective is to reduce solid waste going to landfill and produce recyclable materials, while Lenovo has been exploring materials to reduce the carbon footprint of their products. Toray rCF connects these visions by repurposing Toray’s high-performance carbon fiber from the Boeing aircraft production process into Lenovo’s ultra-light laptop PC.https://lnkd.in/e6CHAF52
