    • Excluding shootouts, Switzerland have failed to win any of their seven round of 16 matches at major international tournaments (EUROs/World Cup – D3 L4), progressing to the quarter finals on just one occasion (EURO 2020, eliminating France on penalties).

Overall, the Italians have seen more games go extra-time than any other nation across the World Cup + EURO (21) and only Spain (11) have contested more shootouts than they have (10).

  11. 'England have realistic chance if players perform to their capabilities'published at 15:55 28 June

    15:55 28 June

Phil McNulty Q&A: #bbcfootball, via WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Ashley: Do you see England as having a realistic chance of winning the Euros, giventhe favourable draw on paper that they now have?

Phil: Hello, Ashley. Theyhave a realistic chance if these talented players can actually perform to theircapabilities, but if not they have no chance.

As for a favourabledraw, I’ve heard all this before, particularly when England played Iceland inthe last 16 at Euro 2016 and look what happened there. A draw is onlyfavourable if you play well and lots of teams in that half of the draw havebeen playing a lot better than England.

"Everyone naturally doubts themselves to begin with. I think the key is recognising that, thencoming up with ways to manage it. In football, I think it's more off the pitchand just before you go out, when that doubt starts to come in, that doubtbefore games, the butterflies. Anyone whotells you that doesn’t impact them is a liar. But it’s the best players who can be self aware to know they arefeeling that and change it during a game."

  13. 'We’ve got to stay present as a team'published at 15:50 28 June

    15:50 28 June

England and Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon on maintaining the hunger to win during difficult periods: "We can only control so much. In the past games we weren’t where we want to be but as I said, it’s in thepast.

"We’ve got to stay present as a team, stay focused on what’s a head of us. We've got a lot coming up, we’ve gota lot to look forward to. If we let pastgames affect us, then we are not going to perform to the best we can."

  14. Southgate substitutions have been 'reactive & like-for-like'published at 15:48 28 June

    15:48 28 June

Phil McNulty Q&A: #bbcfootball, WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Helen inCarmarthen, west Wales: Hi. Why isn’t Gareth Southgate making moresubstitutions? Particularly Lewis Dunk?

Phil: Hello, Helen. Ithink he has been making changes but they have not exactly been in greatcirc*mstances, such as taking Trent Alexander-Arnold off after 54 minutesagainst Denmark then replacing all three attackers at once, 15 minutes later. Not ideal.

Southgate then feltthe need to remove Conor Gallagher for Kobbie Mainoo after 45 minutes againstSlovenia. It has all been reactive and like for like. He has not had the luxury ofmaking changes when the things were going well.

As for Dunk, in myopinion I don’t recall any circ*mstances that have called forhis introduction.
